McGruff the Crime DogThe Shelby County Sheriff's Office is pleased to be able to offer 33 different Programs to the community. We target Programs for Pre-School children, Senior Citizens, Residential Communities and Business Communities.

All Programs are “FREE” and we will go to churches, schools, community centers, private homes (Neighborhood Watch and Home Security Checks) and all organized meeting groups. We will do night and weekend Programs as necessary.

Programs are approximately one hour long. If you need further information, please don't hesitate to contact us.

  • McGruff, the Crime Dog
    McGruff, a figure with which children can identify, informs children what to do about strangers and that drug abuse is not a good thing.
    Target Group
    - Pre-school - 3rd grade

  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness
    Explains how drugs can be harmful and how to avoid being pressured into using them.
    Target Group - 5th grade - Adult

  • Stranger Danger
    Explains about strangers and what to do if approached by a stranger.
    Target Group - Pre-school - 4th Grade

  • Junior Deputy Program
    A three month program about Juvenile rights, Drug and Alcohol abuse, Stranger Danger, and In case of Emergency.
    Target Group - 4th grade only

  • Teen Awareness
    Informs teens about Tennessee laws of which teenagers should be aware.
    Target Group - 7th - 12th grade

  • Teen Suicide
    All teens need to enjoy life.
    Target Group - 7th - 12th grade

  • D.U.I.
    Explains the hazards and the penalties and how law enforcement reacts to driving under the influence.

  • Parents SHould Know
    Informs parents of laws that pertain to their children and their responsibilities in helping to enforce these laws.
