The Memphis and Shelby County Optimist “Respect for the Law Committee,” made up of representatives of the 10 Optimist Clubs in Memphis and Shelby County, have named Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Travis Taylor as “Deputy of the Year”.

Sergeant Charles “Marty” Tartera

Optimist Club's Deputy of the Year

The Optimist Club has, since the 1960s, given awards to deserving officers for their exemplary service to the community. “We are grateful to the Optimist Club for taking time to honor Sergeant Dollahite. He is an excellent officer and truly exemplifies the professional standards of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.

Sergeant Dollahite is the commander of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Crime Response Unit which targets burglary, theft and robbery suspects. Under Sergeant Dollahite’s leadership, the unit arrested 180 people on felony charges during 2009. One case involved the recovery of four guns and 500 pounds of ammunition found in a daycare center.

“Sergeant Dollahite is a man of good moral character and is very empathetic in his dealings with his fellow officers and especially the victims of crimes. He has demonstrated great dedication to his work and to the mission of the Patrol Crime Response Unit,” said Inspector Bill Allen, Commander of the Uniform Patrol Bureau of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Dollahite has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1987. He has served in various bureaus including Narcotics, Patrol, Traffic and Detectives.

Sergeant Dollahite will be honored at a ceremony on May 6th at 2 PM, in the Sheriff’s Conference Room on the 9th Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue.
