Millington Man Charged in Connection with 1993 Nashville Murder
Release Date: November 12, 2004
A man under indictment in connection with a 1993 South Nashville murder has been returned to Nashville following his arrest Thursday by deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at Millington Central High School where he was working as a substitute teacher.
Tyrone Locomus Garner, 36, of 6925 Navy Road, Millington, is named in a 1993 indictment charging facilitation of criminal homicide in connection with the April 29, 1993 shooting death of Frank Floyd Drake. Drake, 35, was fatally wounded when shots rang out from a moving car as he stood outside an apartment at 1020 Thompson Place.
Investigation by then Detective (now Sergeant) Pat Postiglione quickly determined that Drake had been involved in an argument earlier in the day with three men. Hannibal Raymon Bolton, at the time age 33, was identified as the likely shooter and was jailed for murder on the afternoon of April 30, 1993.
Further investigation led to the identities of two men who were in the car with Bolton when Drake was shot. That information was presented to a grand jury in 1993, which returned an indictment charging Garner and Calvin D. Finger with facilitation of criminal homicide. Finger was located by Metro officers and arrested on May 10, 1994. Bolton was convicted of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 22 years in July 1994. Finger was convicted of facilitation of homicide and was sentenced to probation in August 1994.
Within the past few days, Warrants Division Officer John Patterson, as part of his continuing computer research into persons named in older outstanding warrants, learned that Garner had what appeared to be a valid address in Millington. Patterson contacted the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, which confirmed the address Thursday morning. Shelby County deputies learned that Garner was working yesterday as a substitute teacher at the high school, went there, and arrested him without incident.
“The Metropolitan Police Department is committed to locating persons named in outstanding warrants and bringing them to justice,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “Officer Patterson's tremendous research work, combined with the diligence of our officers and law enforcement partners, like the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, are making a real difference in holding warrant offenders accountable.”
Garner was booked into the Metro Jail shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday. He has since posted a $10,000 bond.
