Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Bureau captured a man in midtown Memphis last night wanted by law enforcement Officers in Florida and Mississippi.

Newton County Mississippi Sheriff Jackie Knight, his Chief Deputy and Neshoba Mississippi County Sheriff Herbert Waddell, drove about 250 miles to Memphis yesterday afternoon to search for Richard Rash.

Rash, 30, was wanted on 6 counts of grand larceny in Neshoba County, one count of grand larceny in Newton County, one count of felony drug possession in nearby Lauderdale County, Mississippi and a larceny charge in Florida.

Sheriff Knight contacted Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell late yesterday afternoon about Rash possibly being in the area. Just after 9 o’clock last night, Street Crimes Bureau Deputies arrested Rash as he walked out of a midtown drug store.

“This again shows the importance of collaboration. The Sheriff’s Office wants to be a resource for other law enforcement agencies. I commend our Deputies in the Street Crimes Bureau for their quick action to develop leads and capture this man wanted by authorities in two states,” said Sheriff Luttrell.

An extradition hearing will be conducted next week to determine when Richard Rash will be sent back to Mississippi and Florida.
