Eleven-year-old Arlington boy critically injured in shooting
Release Date: February 21, 2003
Shelby County Sheriff's Detectives say they are trying to determine how an eleven-year-old boy was shot last evening at his home in East Shelby County.
The youngster was shot at his home at 10974 Dixon Robinson Road in the Arlington community. Detectives say his guardian was working in a shed outside the house when he heard a shot about 7 p.m. When he went into the house, he found the young man lying in the hallway with a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators say a rifle used in the shooting had been in a closet in the hallway. Detectives are still trying to figure out what caused the incident. Lab tests have been ordered to help determine if the gun was fired by accident or whether the boy planned on hurting himself.
The boy remains at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center in critical condition. For a condition status, contact a hospital spokesman at 572-3000.
As the investigation continues, updates will be issued about the circumstances of the shooting.
