Deputies Investigate Crash Involving Two School Buses

Release Date: September 11, 2008

Eleven Dexter Middle School students were taken to area hospitals this afternoon after a crash involving two Shelby County school buses.

The crash happened about 3:30 on an exit driveway used by buses at Dexter Middle School at 6998 Raleigh La Grange Road.

Deputies say both buses were full of children at the time of the crash. Traffic investigators say Bus 203 had stopped for traffic on the exit drive and Bus 128 hit the other bus on the left rear corner. The impact shattered a rear window of Bus 203.

The other bus also received minor damage. Several of the 72 students on both buses complained of minor injuries and were taken to various hospitals in stable condition.

Sheriff’s Traffic investigators say the driver of Bus 128 briefly looked in the rear view and didn't realize the other bus had stopped. The bus driver won't be charged since the crash was on private property.
