Man Dies from Injuries in Traffic Crash

The driver of a car that struck a mailbox yesterday afternoon in southeast Shelby County has died from his injuries.
Shelby County Sheriff's Office Traffic Investigators say just after 5 o’clock yesterday evening, Darren Ford, 19, of Shelby County, was driving a 1996 Saturn south in the 5500 block of Ross Road.
As the car rounded a curve near Spring River Road, the vehicle sideswiped a brick mailbox.
Ford, who was alone in the vehicle and wearing a seatbelt, was taken by helicopter to the Regional Medical Center where he died just after 7 o’clock last night.
Deputies say speed was the cause of the crash. There was no evidence of alcohol at the scene.
