A suspected robber is in custody thanks to a citizen who noted the license tag of the vehicle used in the robbery of an elderly woman last weekend.

About Noon on Saturday, May 10, Anne Gregory, 77, was getting into her car at a South-East Shelby County drug store at Holmes and Riverdale. Deputies say that’s when Corterrius Worthy, 20, of Memphis, knocked Ms. Gregory to the parking lot and took her purse. The purse contained cash and credit cards.

The robber sped away in a green, four-door Buick Century. Ms. Gregory was not seriously injured.

While a Sheriff’s patrolman was taking the report, a witness stepped up and gave a detailed description of the getaway vehicle and the license tag number.

The license tag led Deputies in the Sheriff’s Street Crimes Bureau to Worthy. He was arrested last evening about 7 o’clock at his Raleigh home in the 3900 block of Brandy Avenue. Besides the license tag, the witness positively identified Worthy after looking at pictures of several suspects.

Ms. Gregory’s purse has not been found. Deputies are checking bank statements to see if anyone has used her credit cards.

Corterrius Worthy has been charged with robbery and given a bond of $25,000.
