Shelby County Deputies Arrest Five People and Ticket Almost 200 Others During Cordova Area Enforcement Effort Last Night
Release Date: April 4, 2004
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office continued its neighborhood crime suppression effort by targeting an area in Cordova last night. Acting on crime statistics and citizen complaints, officers concentrated their efforts in the following boundaries:
- North-Brightwood Road
- South-Mullins Station Road
- East-Appling/Dexter Roads
- West-Whitten Road
Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies took a “zero tolerance” stance regarding criminal activity and traffic violations.
“When we see increases in crime, we want to respond quickly with every resource possible. These crime suppression initiatives will be on-going,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Here are the results of the enforcement effort:
- Arrests: 5
- Traffic Tickets: 135
- CourtesyTickets: 48
During March there was a rise in thefts in the Cordova area, especially items taken from vehicles. Officers say these high visibility efforts discourage crime and reassure citizens their concerns about crime are being addressed.
Of the 35 Sheriff’s Office personnel conducting last night’s saturation, 31 were Reserve Deputies and volunteers with the Emergency Services Division.
