A “tri-county” traffic enforcement initiative will be conducted this Friday evening, June 1 by Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and other law enforcement agencies in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton Counties.

There will be “zero-tolerance” for those speeding, driving recklessly, or driving impaired on alcohol and other drugs. Additionally, officers will be watching for infants and children not strapped in car or booster seats.

“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was contacted recently by the Atoka Police Department about having a joint traffic safety initiative in and near Shelby County. Deputies in our Traffic Bureau offered to link our resources with other law enforcement agencies. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of those who use the roadways in Shelby and neighboring Tennessee counties,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be checking Driver’s Licenses at Highway 51 at the Tipton County Line from 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. Other traffic checkpoints will begin at 8 p.m. and continue through 11 p.m. at various locations in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton Counties.

This weekend’s “tri-county” traffic safety effort is being conducted along with other traffic initiatives across America.

The nationwide “Click-it or Ticket” initiative by law enforcement agencies began May 21st and continues through June 3rd.

Sheriff Luttrell, along with other sheriffs and police chiefs will discuss details of the enforcement initiative at a news conference Friday, June 1. It will be held at 10 a.m. at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Arlington. The address is 11670 Memphis Arlington Road.

Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr., speaks at a news conference with Tipton County Sheriff Pauncho Chumley, Fayette County Sheriff Bobby Riles, and other chiefs and command staffs from Police Departments in Shelby, Tipton and Fayette County.
