Awards Service Tomorrow for Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Employees Serving in the Armed Forces

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will pay tribute tomorrow (March 24) to staff members who have recently returned from the Iraq War and others who are still on activity military duty. The ceremony will be held in the Shelby County Jail Employees Dining Room, First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue, at 1:00 p.m.

“We will gather to recognize the accomplishments of Sheriff’s Office employees who have answered the high calling to keep our nation free. It’s important we let these dedicated employees know we appreciate their efforts,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Since 2001, 30 Sheriff’s Office employees have been mobilized or deployed to the Iraq War. The following is a list of those who have recently returned home from active duty and where they reside in the community:

  • Corrections Sergeant Debra Hammons- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Barry Stewart- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Byron Jasper - Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Carlos Atkins - Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Charles Watkins- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Corey Rice- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Darryl Wherry- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Davie Davis-Memphis (Not at work at this time)
  • Corrections Deputy Donald Williams- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Eric Heard- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Gregory Rainey- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Jamaca Randall- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Kenneth Boykin- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Louis Bryant - Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Marcus Harts - Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Maurice James- Bartlett
  • Corrections Deputy Terry Hailey - Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Yolanda Thompson- Memphis
  • Corrections Deputy Vickie Strong-Memphis (recently resigned)

Tomorrow’s Military Service Ceremony will last approximately one hour.
