Sheriff Luttrell to honor Sheriff’s Office employees serving in the Armed Forces

Release Date: August 22, 2003

Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. will be honoring 21 Shelby County Sheriff’s Office employees who are, or have served recently in active military duty. Thousands of military reservists have been sent to help stabilize the country of Iraq. Countless others have been called to help in military operations across the United States and at other places in the world.

“As tension remains high in Iraq, it’s apparent a large part of the military effort is made up of reservists. We want those from the Sheriff’s Office who have answered this high calling to know they are appreciated and have our support during these challenging times,” said Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.

Of the Twenty-one Sheriff’s Office employees who will be honored, seventeen people work at the jail, three are in Law Enforcement and one other person is employed in the Human Resources Division. Out of that group of 21 employees, six are still away on active duty.

The awards presentation will be made on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 12 Noon in the dining room at the Shelby County Jail, 201 Poplar Avenue. Lt. Peggy Bailey from the jail’s administrative staff will be coordinating the event. She will also help arrange for your entry to the jail so you may attend the ceremony. Lt. Bailey can be reached at 545-2638.
