Atoka Man Dies From Vehicle Crash Injuries

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies say an Atoka man died this afternoon from injuries he received in a car crash last evening in North Shelby County.

Deputies say Jason Reid, 23, died after his car was hit by another vehicle. The crash happened at the intersection of Raleigh Millington and Fite Road. Reid was the only person in his car, a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu.

Officers say Reid was attempting to turn north onto Raleigh Millington Road from Fite Road when his car was hit by a GMC Suburban traveling south on Raleigh Millington driven by Melvin McCriston, 46, of Millington. McCriston’s 17 year old son was also in the SUV. The teenager and his father were treated for minor injuries.

Deputies say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing. So far, no charges have been placed again McCriston.
