Man Arrested For Attempting To Kidnap Northaven Child

Peter LongleySheriff’s Detectives have charged a man for attempting to kidnap a child. It happened in the Northaven area in North Shelby County.

On December 20, 2005, Deputies say a young boy was walking along Circle Road near William Carey Drive about 3:00 p.m. when a red Mazda pulled up near him along the curb.

The child told detectives the man opened the passenger door of the car and demanded that he get into the vehicle. The child refused the man’s demands, ran home and told his mother about the incident.

Within a matter of minutes, Deputies had the car stopped on Breckenwood near North Cirlce Road.

Investigators say Peter Longley, 50, of Memphis, was initially arrested for driving without a license and possession of marijuana.

Later that same evening (December 20), the child identified Longley as the man who demanded that he get into his car.

Longley was charged with Criminal Attempt-Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving Without a License. He’s being held in the Shelby County Jail on $75,000 bond.
