Detectives place murder charges in connection with the shooting outside a Barnes and Noble store in 2002
Release Date: January 2, 2004
Shelby County Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a man they believe murdered a vending machine employee outside a Barnes and Noble store at 6000 Freeport Avenue in 2002.
Investigators say Michael Todd Adams was shot to death on September 9, 2002. He had gone to the Barnes and Noble store to service the vending machines. Adams was found dead in his truck shortly before 5 p. m.
Detectives say although no money was taken during the event, robbery was the motive.
Investigators say a tip to Crime Stoppers led to the arrest of Terrance Scales, 23, of Memphis. Scales has been charged with First Degree Murder and is currently being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
The investigation is continuing and detectives say there could be more arrests.
