Undercover Beer Sting Results In Arrests At Frayser Area Businesses

Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad visited businesses in the Frayser area this past Friday night. Clerks at 67% of the locations visited by officers sold alcohol to persons below the legal drinking age of 21.

On Friday evening, March 17, 2006, Deputies and other officers visited 21 locations, which included convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores along Watkins, Thomas and other streets. Clerks at 14 businesses sold beer to minors.

Of those clerks arrested for selling alcohol to underage customers, 9 received misdemeanor citations and will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division. Five (5) other clerks were physically arrested.

The sting last Friday night was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.

This was the fourth undercover sting in 2006. Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers on the Metro D.U.I. Squad have arrested 58 people in the stings for selling alcohol to underage persons.
