Undercover Beer Sting Results In Arrests At East Shelby County and Arlington Area Businesses

Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad visited businesses in the East Shelby County and Arlington areas this past Thursday evening. Clerks at 45% of the locations visited by officers sold alcohol to persons below the legal drinking age of 21.
On Thursday evening, April 13, 2006, Deputies and other officers visited 33 locations, which included convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores along Whitten Road, Macon Road, Appling and in Arlington.
Clerks at 15 businesses were arrested and given misdemeanor citations for selling beer to minors. The clerks will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.
The sting last Thursday night was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
This was the sixth undercover sting in 2006.
Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers on the Metro D.U.I. Squad which is comprised of officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Memphis Police Department and Germantown Police Department, have arrested 87 people in the stings for selling alcohol to underage persons.
