Violations Handed Out During Weekend Beer Sting

Officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad went undercover this past Friday evening (August 12) and found clerks at 14 businesses in Memphis selling alcohol to persons under the legal drinking age of 21.
Deputies and other officers visited 39 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores in Midtown and South Memphis.
Clerks who were given misdemeanor citations will have to report to the Shelby County Jail to be booked and fingerprinted.
Last weekend’s sting was part of an on-going effort by the Metro D.U.I. Squad to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
Officers who work in the undercover stings are paid by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
