Clerks Cited in South-East Memphis Beer Sting

Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad visited businesses along Mt. Moriah, Knight Arnold, and other nearby streets in South-East Memphis last night.
Deputies and other officers visited 32 businesses, which included convenience stores, service station marts and liquor stores. Of the 32 visits, 31% led to arrests.
Ten (10) clerks were cited for selling beer to persons below the legal drinking age of 21. The clerks were issued Misdemeanor Citations and will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers from the Memphis Police Department and Germantown Police Department comprise the Metro D.U.I. Squad.
This was the first beer sting in 2007. Last night’s sting was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
