Clerks Cited In North Memphis and North Shelby County Area Beer Sting

The Metro D.U.I. Squad conducted an undercover “beer sting” last night in North Memphis and North Shelby County. Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers from the Germantown Police Department comprise the Metro D.U.I. Squad.

Officers noted violations at 30% of the 30 businesses visited. The sting targeted convenience stores, service station marts and liquor stores along North Watkins, Frayser Boulevard, Thomas Street and on Breckenwood in the Northaven area.

Officers witnessed 9 clerks sell beer to people under the legal alcohol drinking age of 21. The clerks will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.

• Beer Stings Conducted: 4
• Total Arrests: 40

Last night’s sting was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
