Clerks Cited In East Memphis and Arlington Area Beer Sting

The Metro D.U.I. Squad conducted an undercover “beer sting” last night in East Memphis and Arlington. Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers from the Germantown Police Department comprise the Metro D.U.I. Squad.
Officers noted violations at 32% of the 31 businesses visited. The sting targeted convenience stores, service station marts and liquor stores along Winchester, Elvis Presley and Tchulahoma in Memphis and Highway 70 in Arlington.
Officers witnessed 10 clerks sell beer to people under the legal alcohol drinking age of 21. The clerks will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.

Last night’s sting was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
