22 Arrested at Mid-South Fair For Alcohol Violations

Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad conducted two undercover beer stings at the Mid-South Fair this past week and arrested 22 people.

On September 23, deputies and other officers arrested 7 people. Four people were cited for Possessing or Consuming Beer under the legal drinking age of 21.  Three others were arrested for Buying Beer for a Minor.

On September 29, deputies and other officers arrested 15 people.  Eleven of those were cited for Possessing or Consuming Beer under the legal drinking age of 21.   Four others were arrested for Buying Beer for a Minor.

Regarding the 22 arrests, 21 of those persons were over 18 years-old and will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.   The other person cited, a 17 year-old, received a summons to appear in Juvenile Court.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers from the Memphis Police Department and Germantown Police Department comprise the Metro D.U.I. Squad.

So far this year, the squad has conducted 23 undercover beer stings and 297 people have been issued citations or physically arrested for alcohol violations.

The undercover stings at the Mid-South Fair were part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
