Bicyclist Killed Today While Riding On Busy East Shelby County Road

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies say a man was killed this afternoon as he rode his bicycle on Winchester near Hacks Cross Road.

Officers have not been able to identify the man who appears to be in his late forties or early fifties. He was riding a custom made black and red touring bicycle.

Investigators say he was traveling west on Winchester in front of Windyke Country Club when he was hit by a woman driving a GMC Yukon.

Deputies say the woman said she did not see the bicyclist who was traveling along the curb lane of Winchester. The man was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Charges may be forthcoming following the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone with information about who the rider of the bicycle might be is asked to call the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division at 867-1424 or the Regional Medical Center at 545-7100.
