Bicyclist Killed in Yesterday’s Crash in East Shelby County Has Been Identified

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies say they know the identity of the man who was killed as he rode his bicycle on Winchester near Hacks Cross Road.

Officers say Phillip Giewont, 47, of Collierville, was killed yesterday afternoon as he was traveling west on Winchester in front of Windyke Country Club. He was hit by a woman driving a GMC Yukon.

Deputies say the woman said she did not see Giewont as he traveled along the curb lane of Winchester. He died a short time after the accident at the Regional Medical Center.

Charges may be forthcoming following the outcome of the investigation.
