Deputies Continue Aggressive Traffic Enforcement Effort on Bill Morris Parkway

Release Date: August 24, 2004

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell says deputies conducted another successful traffic enforcement effort on Bill Morris Parkway last evening. The parkway continues to be one of the top locations in the county for speeding and reckless driving.

“Our deputies sent a clear message to drivers last evening. We will continue to monitor Bill Morris Parkway to remind drivers the speed limit will be strictly enforced,” said Sheriff Luttrell.

In the last three months, one person has been killed and five others injured in traffic crashes on Bill Morris Parkway. Speeding and reckless driving had a role in all of the accidents. On a stretch of the parkway between Winchester and Forest Hill-Irene Road, deputies issued 116 violations between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Here’s the breakdown of those 116 tickets:

  • 69 — Seat Belt Violations Regarding Adults
  • 45 — Speeding
  • 1 — No Driver’s License
  • 1 — No Child Restraint Under 4 years Old

“Our goal is to keep anyone from being hurt or killed on Bill Morris Parkway. Motorists who travel this road will be seeing a lot of deputies in the coming months,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
