Ten Children Shaken Up When A Car Hits Their School Bus Near Cordova

Release Date: April 27, 2004

Traffic investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office say a car hit a Shelby County School Bus today in East Shelby County near Cordova. About 50 students were on their way home from Mt. Pisgah Middle School when the accident happened about 4:00 p.m.

The bus had just stopped at a railroad crossing on Macon Road near Lenow Road in East Shelby County when the car hit the rear of the bus. Although there were no apparent injuries to the children, several ambulances were called to take ten children to the hospital to be evaluated. All of the children were released a short time after they arrived.

The driver of the car, a woman from the Lakeland community, was hurt. She was taken to Baptist Hospital East and was treated for back and neck injuries. She was given a ticket for failure to yield.
