Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Detectives along with officers with Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Safe Streets Task Force and the U.S. Marshal’s Office arrested the two men, one late last night, the other early this morning.

About 11:30 last night, Investigators took Corey B. Richmond, 24, of Memphis, into custody near the intersection of Hollywood at Chelsea in North Memphis.

Just a few hours after that, officers caught up with Jeremy Garrett, 25, also of Memphis, in the Whitehaven area. Detectives tracked him to a home on Labrador Street. Garrett was hiding the attic of the home.

Both Richmond and Garrett have been charged with first degree murder.

A third man investigators believe to be involved in the murder, Tommy L. Turley, 25, of Memphis, was taken into custody this past Friday. He was also charged with first degree murder and especially aggravated robbery.

Officers believe the three men attacked Dexter Birge, 28 of Memphis, as he was getting into his GMC Denali sport utility vehicle at the store in south-east Shelby County.

After Birge was shot, his vehicle was stolen and recovered a couple of hours later about 25 miles away in Fayette County.
