Memphis Man Charged For Murdering Car-Jack Victim
Release Date: April 2, 2004
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Detectives charged a man late today in connection with the deadly car-jacking in East Shelby County earlier this week.
Investigators say Tommy L. Turley, 25, of Memphis, admitted he had a role in this past Monday night’s killing at the Dollar General Store at 7110 East Shelby Drive.
Officers believe Turley and two other men attacked Dexter Birge, 28 of Memphis as he was getting into his GMC Denali sport utility vehicle.
After Birge was shot, his vehicle was stolen and recovered a couple of hours later about 25 miles away in Fayette County.
Detectives say they are looking for two other people believed to be involved in the killing.
Turley has been charged with first degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274) or the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (901) 545-5600.
