Deputies from the Patrol, General Investigation and Street Crimes Bureaus arrested Brandon Guess, 27, last night at his home on Breezy Valley.

“This is an excellent example of teamwork among our Deputies. Officers from various bureaus combined their resources to quickly develop information which led to the suspect’s arrest last night,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Investigators say their search ironically led them right back to the house Guess tried to break into after the carjacking.

About 7:30 yesterday morning, Whitney Jones, 18, and her eleven month-old son, Cameron, were at the Kroger gas station on Macon Road at Houston Levee.

As she was putting air into a tire, investigators say Guess jumped into her car and drove off. An off-duty Memphis Police Officer allowed Jones to get into his truck and the two, along with another customer who witnessed the carjacking, followed Jones’ car to the intersection of Breezy Valley at Macon.

Deputies say that’s when Guess stopped the car and then ran to a house at 1266 Breezy Valley and tried to pry open a window. Unable to get inside, he ran from the neighborhood.

After searching the area for hours, Deputies received information Guess lived in the house he tired to burglarize.

Deputies converged on the house at 1266 Breezy Valley last night and found Guess there along with clothes he wore during the carjacking.

Whitney Jones’ Driver’s License and other belongings from her purse were also recovered.

Although shaken up, Whitney Jones and her young son were not hurt during the carjacking.

Brandon Guess has been charged with carjacking and kidnapping.
