Sheriff’s Office Begins Internet Child Safety Seat Awareness Program

Release Date: February 28, 2005

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office now has important information about child passenger safety posted at the Sheriff's Office website.

“Our Deputies continue to write violations for drivers who are not aware of the child safety laws, especially those that require booster seats. We wanted to offer an easy way for people to have their questions answered about the child passenger safety laws. I appreciate the fine work of our Deputies in the Crime Prevention Unit and the staff in our Information Systems for posting these safety tips at our website,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Specific information about the seating requirements for infants, toddler and young children is listed at the website's home page. Additionally, visitors to the site may learn about Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton's “SPOT” (Serve and Protect Our Tots) child care safety program.

Other links may be chosen to acquaint people with initiatives by the National Safe Kids Campaign and the Governor's Highway Safety Office.

Besides the on-line information, Crime Prevention Deputies are available to personally visit with citizens to demonstrate the types of car seats and their proper installation.

Information about the car seat demonstrations and the safety tips can be seen at www.shelby-sheriff.org at these two direct links:
