Release Date: January 10, 2003

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says a six-year-old girl was injured late this afternoon after she was hit by a Shelby County School Bus. The accident happened in East Shelby County about 4 p.m.

The little girl, a student at Macon Hall Elementary School, had just gotten off the school bus near 9754 Woodland View Lane which is near the intersection of Houston Levee at Macon in East Shelby County.

Witnesses told traffic investigators the little girl ran in front of the bus just as it pulled away from unloading the children. As of this evening, no charges have been placed against the driver, a 61-year-old lady. Routine tests will be conducted on the driver for the presence of drugs or alcohol.

The little girl was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in non-critical condition. This story will be updated, as information becomes available.
