Child Passenger Safety To Highlight Upcoming Community Event

Release Date: September 22, 2005

Shelby County Crime Prevention Deputies will join representatives of State Farm Insurance Company this weekend to give safety demonstrations about the proper way to keep children secure while riding in vehicles.

The community event will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2005, at the “Babies R-Us” store at 3525 Riverdale from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office to link with other agencies and businesses in our community to help keep children safe. We appreciate the efforts of State Farm Insurance to host this event to keep citizens aware of the proper way to transport children in vehicles,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Shelby County Deputies continue to discover while on traffic stops some children are not properly bucked into infant safety seats and booster seats. As a result, the Sheriff’s Office will also be unveiling a new child restraint education vehicle at Saturday’s event that will offer “hands-on” instruction about the installation and use of child seats.

The Sheriff’s new Child Safety Demonstration Van will be featured at various community events during the coming months. Civic and church groups interested in seeing the van and getting a demonstration may call the Crime Prevention Office at (901) 867-1401.
