Sheriff’s Office Joins Community Effort To Highlight Child Passenger Safety

Release Date: April 3, 2006

The Shelby County Crime Prevention Unit will be offering free child car seat inspections at an event this weekend at the Agricenter.

The car seat inspections will be conducted in conjunction with the “KidsTown Children’s Consignment Sale”, a large-scale consignment show featuring children’s clothes, furniture, toys and other items for children.

The child seat inspection program will be held at the Agricenter at 7777 Walnut Grove Road on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office to demonstrate the proper way for children to be restrained in child safety seats or booster seats while riding in vehicles.  This will be an important community program to help keep children safe,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Bureau are Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructors and routinely teach parents and caregivers how to properly install and use their child safety seats.

Deputy Beth Braden and Sheriff’s Crime Prevention Officer Les Haynes will also be giving tours of the Sheriff’s “Child Restraint Education Vehicle.”
