An eleven year-old boy remains in stable condition at the hospital today after being hit by a car yesterday afternoon in South-East Shelby County.
Shelby County Sheriff's Office Traffic Investigators say the child was playing in the street with several other children yesterday afternoon about 2:30 in the Richwood subdivision.
Deputies say a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by a 17 year-old boy was going south in the 4200 block of Richwood Place when the car hit the child.
Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators say the driver sounded his horn as he approached the children. All of them got out of the way except the young boy.
The youngster was hit in the abdomen and taken by helicopter to Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. The driver of the Camry was not injured.
Deputies say the teenaged driver was charged with Failure to Exercise Due Care. The eleven year-old victim was issued a Juvenile Summons for Obstructing Traffic.
