Undray Wright |
A suspected kidnapper surrendered this afternoon to Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies after he barricaded himself inside a home in Raleigh. A two year-old boy belonging to the suspect’s girlfriend was not hurt and was rescued by Deputies during the stand-off.
About 2 o’clock this afternoon, Deputies from the General Investigation, Street Crimes, SWAT and K-9 Bureaus along with officers with the United States Marshal’s Task Force, surrounded a house in the 3200 block of Fairbanks in Raleigh.
Deputies say Undray (correct spelling) Wright, 22, of Memphis, was wanted on Aggravated Kidnapping and other charges involving an incident several days ago.
During that incident, Wright had allegedly kidnapped the mother of a former girlfriend, and his girlfriend’s five year-old daughter about 12:30 in the morning on June 17th.
Wright forced the lady and the child into his car from their home in the 7600 block of Brookbriar Place in South-East Shelby County. The woman and child were driven throughout parts of Shelby County for a couple of hours but were released unharmed at Shelby Drive near Riverdale.
Since the kidnapping, Sheriff’s detectives had been searching for Wright and tracked him today to the home in Raleigh.
Deputies arrived at the home on Fairbanks and found Wright inside with a male friend and a two year-old little boy who belonged to the homeowner, Wright’s current girlfriend.
Wright barricaded himself inside a bedroom and refused to leave the house. He had a 9 mm pistol and made repeated threats to kill himself.
About three o’clock, an hour after the stand-off began, Deputies rescued the child, who had not been injured. Sheriff’s hostage negotiators continued talking to Wright who surrendered a short time later. Wright’s male friend was also not hurt and does not face any charges.
Wright faces the earlier charges of two counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, and is also wanted on an Aggravated Robbery Charge involving a crime in Fayette County.
Deputies say Wright faces charges in connection with this afternoon’s stand-off. Those charges are expected later tonight or in the morning.
