Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man today moments after he allegedly burglarized a Millington area church. Investigators say a deacon at the church chased the suspect in his vehicle before Deputies arrested the man.
Just before 5 o’clock this morning, a burglar alarm went off at Friendship United Methodist Church at 6220 Highway 51. A deacon of the church was contacted by the alarm company and he drove to the church.
As the deacon arrived, he noticed a front window of the church shattered. Seconds later, a red Dodge Intrepid sped out of the parking lot.
The deacon, in his pick up truck, chased the suspect’s car north on Highway 51. Sheriff’s Deputies saw both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and got behind the deacon’s truck and pulled him over.
The deacon told Deputies what happened. Within minutes, they found the suspect’s vehicle at a house in the 3700 block of Shane Road in Millington.
Deputies ordered Matthew Revis, 29, of Millington, out of the 2004 Dodge Intrepid. They noticed his left hand was bleeding and there was blood on the car seat.
Two speakers from the church sound system were found in the car. After returning to the church, Deputies found what is believed to be Revis’ blood on the church door, in the sanctuary, even on the church Bible.
Investigators believe Revis cut his hand when he allegedly tried to squeeze through one of three broken windows at the church.
After being treated for his injuries at The Regional Medical Center, Revis was taken to the Shelby County Jail. He was charged with Aggravated Burglary, Theft of Property Over $1,000 and Vandalism Over $500.
