Sheriff’s Office Needs Students For Citizens’ Academy

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for the next Citizens’ Academy, which starts next month.

“This will be our fifth class. It will be an excellent opportunity for people to learn more about the various divisions of the Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Classes begin September 20 and end with graduation on November 15. The sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings at 6 o’clock and on a few Saturdays. Students will see demonstrations, participate in group discussions and attend presentations by officers and staff members from the various divisions.

Those interested in taking the sessions must be 21 years of age and live or work in Shelby County. Applications can be mailed by calling the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy at (901) 387-5750. They are also available online here: Citizens Academy Online Application Form.

Students must pass a criminal background check to attend the sessions.
