Shelby County Sheriff’s Office To Send “Instant” Crime Information To Businesses and Concerned Citizens

The Sheriff’s Office will soon be sending routine updates about crime in Shelby County to businesses, neighborhood watch groups, community organizations and concerned citizens by E-mail and faxes.

“We solve the majority of crimes by working in partnership with citizens who share crime information. We know many people use E-mail and fax daily. This new initiative will allow the Sheriff’s Office to quickly communicate with citizens so they can assist us to help keep Shelby County safe,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

The Sheriff’s Office will be working in co-partnership with ABC 24 and UPN Eyewitness News to sponsor the “Safe and Secure network” powered by “Citizen Observer”. The internet technology company works with law enforcement agencies throughout the country to alert citizens about specific crimes, crime patterns and criminals wanted by law enforcement.

Deputies from various divisions of the Sheriff’s Office will be composing crime bulletins on the “Business Alert Network” at the “CitizenObserver” website. “Citizens Observer” will then send the crime information by E- mail and/or fax to those who sign up to receive the updates.

“CitizenObserver” has already begun contacting businesses in the Shelby County area by fax and website address for their participation. There is no cost to subscribe to service.
