Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say a man who tried to rob a convenience store late last night near Raleigh was shot by the store's owner.
Sheriff's detectives say about 10: 30, Aaron Thomas, 24, of Memphis, walked into KC's Market and Deli at 4861 Highway 14. A clerk said Thomas indicated he was armed and demanded money. The woman clerk then handed over cash.
About that same time, the store's owner, Boonie Crawford, 67, realized the clerk had been robbed. Crawford said as he followed Thomas out of the store, Thomas pulled a gun and pointed it at him. Thomas did not fire the gun.
Crawford, however, was also armed. He shot Thomas. Thomas ran to a dark colored mini van and drove away.
Deputies say Thomas went to his girlfriend's house in the 1200 block of Frayer Boulevard. About an hour or so after the robbery, Deputies caught up with Thomas after the staff at Methodist North Hospital reported he had shown up for treatment. Thomas claimed he had been shot after fighting with another man. Thomas was treated for wounds to his left arm.
He was released from the hospital this morning and taken to the Shelby County Jail.
Detectives say they are investigating whether Thomas was involved in another robbery at KC's market earlier this year.
On the night of May 25th, two men robbed the store. A third person drove the getaway vehicle. No one was hurt in that robbery.
So far, no arrests have been made in that case.
Aaron Thomas has been charged with Aggravated Robbery.
No charges have been placed against Boonie Crawford.
