“Click-It or Ticket” Enforcement Efforts Yield 176 Violations

Release Date: February 2, 2005

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies continued their emphasis on traffic safety yesterday with two enforcement efforts. Deputies were on Riverdale in South Shelby County and on Rosemark in North Shelby County.

The “zero tolerance” safety check points were conducted as part of the Sheriff's Office effort to reduce incidents of speeding, reckless driving and those in vehicles who are not wearing seat belts.

“So many fatalities and injuries can be prevented if people buckle their seat belts and follow the posted speed laws. We've been out in force for the past couple of months sending a clear message to motorists. Our enforcement efforts will be continuing as a result of a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

At the Riverdale check point, Deputies wrote 51 traffic violations and issued two courtesy citations. Then, at the other end of the county, Deputies combined forces with three other law enforcement agencies at a check point on Rosemark near Tracy.

Shelby County Deputies worked with the Tipton County Sheriff's Office, the Atoka Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. In that effort, 104 traffic violations were issued, 16 courtesy tickets written and three people were taken into custody wanted on misdemeanor charges.
