Tennessee Launches “Click It or Ticket” to Help Save Lives Law Enforcement Blitz Buckling Down on Those Not Buckled Up

WHAT: HANDS Across the Border (HATB) News Conference

Law enforcement in Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri and Arkansas join forces to promote strict adherence to traffic laws during the upcoming summer travel period.

WHEN: Friday, May 11, 2007 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: I-55, Tennessee Welcome Center Memphis, Tennessee

BACKGROUND: Hands Across the Border was created in 1991 by safety advocates to bring about awareness of safety belt and child safety seat use across the Southeastern states. Participating state and local enforcement agencies sponsor education and community outreach events, where motorists will receive literature regarding the dangers of drunk driving, as well as the importance of seat belt and proper child safety seat use. Law enforcement officials will show zero tolerance this summer for anyone not buckled up, speeding, or driving impaired.

Two intersections were manned by Sheriff’s Deputies

  • Hacks Cross at Holmes
  • Stateline at Riverdale

EVENT RESULTS:

  • CITATIONS ISSUED: 69
  • DUI ARRESTS: 02
  • OTHER TRAFFIC ARRESTS: 01
  • TOTAL number of vehicles that passed the safety check point was: 1651
