Shelby County Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained In Weekend Traffic Crash
Release Date: January 12, 2004
An East Shelby County resident died at The Med today from injuries she received in a weekend traffic crash.
Janie Johnson, 77, of Eads, was critically injured Saturday evening just before six o'clock. She was a front seat passenger in a car driven by her niece, Tina Johnson, 26, also of Eads.
Officer say Tina Johnson was driving north in East Shelby County on Collierville-Arlington Road when her car crashed into another vehicle that was attempting to turn left onto Raleigh LaGrange Road.
Janie Johnson was taken to Baptist Hospital in Collierville and then airlifted to The Med with head and spinal injuries. Officers say she was not wearing a seat belt.
Tina Johnson and a small child in the back seat were not hurt. The driver of the other car, Patricia Spore, 42, also of Eads, was not injured.
Deputies say speed was not a factor in the crash. However, Tina Johnson has been charged with Following Too Closely to Ms. Spore's car.
Investigators say alcohol WAS NOT involved in the crash.
