Collierville Teenager Dies From Injuries In Traffic Crash

Release Date: November 3, 2004

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies say a Collierville teenager died last night at the Regional Medical Center Officer after a late afternoon traffic crash in East Shelby County.

Deputies say Jillian Kay Frevert, of Collierville, a Senior at Collierville High School, was driving her 2003 Nissan Altima north on Houston Levee Road, when she lost control of her vehicle near Raleigh LaGrange.

The teenager’s car slid sideways into the path of a Toyota pickup truck driven by Paul Gerhardt, 50, also of Collierville.

Traffic deputies say Ms. Frevert was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center. Although she was wearing a seatbelt, she died of her injuries last night.

Mr. Gerhardt received only minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt. Deputies are not sure whether the teenager was wearing her seatbelt. The accident is still under investigation today.

Investigators say the rainy weather apparently caused the crash.

Alcohol WAS NOT a factor.
