Child Apparently Drowns During Neighborhood Party In Cordova

Release Date: June 27, 2005

Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division say a three-year-old girl apparently drowned this past weekend at a neighbor’s swimming pool.

This past Saturday evening (June 25th), Mr. and Mrs. Jason Wade and their children were attending a neighborhood party at a home in the 1200 block of Anise Cove in Cordova.

Just before 8 p.m., the Wades lost sight of Katherine, their three-year-old daughter. Within moments, Katherine’s mother discovered her in the swimming pool. Mrs. Wade and her husband jumped into the water, brought out the child and attempted to revive the little girl.

She was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner has been asked to rule on the exact cause of the child’s death. All indications support the child wandered into the pool and drowned.

The case will be reviewed by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. However, no charges are expected.
