Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies, working in partnership with Deputies with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested a Cordova man for operating a stolen property business from his home.

Sheriff’s detectives received a tip that Raymond Taggart, 64, would buy and sell stolen property. Posing as thieves, Sheriff’s detectives in the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau set up a sting last week. They went to Taggart’s house in the 100 block of Walnut Creek and offered to sell him a “stolen trailer.”

Deputies say Taggart offered to buy the trailer for $400.00. After arresting Taggart, investigators discovered more than 30 items thought to be stolen in burglaries in Shelby and Tipton Counties. Among the items:

  • 11 Utility Trailers
  • 1 Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle
  • 2 Riding Lawn Mowers
  • 1 Bass Boat
  • Various Electronic Items
  • Several Power Tools

Investigators say Taggart would also sell some of the stolen property at auction houses in Mississippi. Sheriff’s Deputies say the stolen items are worth almost $34,000.
