Sheriff's Deputies say three teenagers are responsible for last Friday’s home invasion in Cordova. Detectives arrested them last night for attacking a grandmother and her young granddaughter in their home near Macon and Houston Levee on February 29. Detectives say one of the teenagers lives right across the street from the victim’s house.
About 9 o’clock last Friday night, two young men, both armed, entered the front door of the house in the 10,000 block of Rathmore Cove. The front door was not locked.

Investigators say Ranget Jefferson, 18, of Millington, had a weapon, possibly a BB gun. Jefferson’s 17 year-old accomplice was armed with a baseball bat and knife. After confronting Bi Zhao, 51, and her two year-old granddaughter, they bound Ms. Zhao’s feet, hands and mouth with packing tape. The little girl was not harmed.
The teenagers ransacked the home and took cash, jewelry, a laptop computer and other items.
Investigators say Rakeyta Jones, 18, a neighbor of Zhao’s, acted as a lookout during the robbery. Jones lives right across the street from the Zhao family.
Sheriff’s detectives say Jones and the other two teenagers plotted the robbery. They knew the Zhao family kept cash and other valuables at the home. All three teenagers face several charges:
- Especially Aggravated Kidnapping
- Aggravated Robbery
- Aggravated Assault
- Aggravated Burglary
Rakeyta Jones and Ranget Jefferson are being held at the Shelby County Jail. Their pictures are being sent in separate e mail files. The other teenager is in custody at Memphis and Shelby County Juvenile Court.
