Cordova Man Killed In Weekend Traffic Crash

Release Date: November 7, 2005

A traffic crash in North Shelby County claimed the life of a man last night. On Sunday, November 6, just after 8:30 P.M., Deputies say David Pettit, 22, of Cordova, was killed when his car ran off Russell Bond Road near Shelby Forest and crashed into a tree.

Traffic investigators say Pettit, who was alone in his vehicle, was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Honda Prelude near Abston Road.

Deputies say Pettit was not wearing a seatbelt. Tests will be conducted by the Shelby County Medical Examiner to see whether alcohol might have played a role in the crash.

So far this year, five (5) people have been killed on Shelby County roads patrolled by Sheriff’s Deputies.
