Deputies say about 2:30, Barry Wayne Cook, Jr., 30, of Memphis, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pick up truck south on Appling Road.
As the vehicle passed Dexter, the truck veered off the road and hit a utility pole. It then continued several hundred feet and hit a second utility pole.
Cook, who was alone in the truck, was ejected from the vehicle. He was dead at the scene. Deputies say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
It has not been determined whether alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash. The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating.
