Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two teenagers early this morning for smashing the windshields of five cars and damaging a mailbox in Cordova.

The two were arrested about one o’clock this morning at the intersection of Ericson and Timber Creek. Deputies recognized the pick up truck allegedly used to commit the vandalisms and initiated a traffic stop.

Matthew Tarbox, 18, of Cordova, was driving the 2002 Chevy Silverado pick up truck. The other person in the truck was a 17 year-old boy.

Deputies say the teenagers apparently used a golf club to smash the windshields and other windows of four vehicles parked in the 200, 300 and 500 blocks of Sanga Road. The windows of another vehicle were smashed in the 8600 block of Bazemore Road during last night’s crime spree.

Also in the 8600 block of Bazemore, investigators believe the two teenagers smashed a mailbox. During the vandalisms, the vehicles were not occupied and no one was injured.

Deputies found pieces of vehicle window glass in the front seat of the suspects’ pick up truck. More glass was found in the bed of the truck.

Deputies recovered the golf club allegedly used in the vandalisms. It was found along Sanga Road just south of Ericson.

Both Matthew Tarbox and the other teenager have been charged with:

  • Five counts-Felony Vandalism
  • One count-Misdemeanor Vandalism

The investigation is continuing and Deputies say the two may be responsible for vandalizing other vehicles and mailboxes in the Sanga and Bazemore area.
