The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will graduate 27 new Corrections Deputies at a ceremony next week. The graduation will be held on Wednesday night, December 12, at the Shelby County Election Commission Operations Center located at 980 Nixon Drive.  The ceremony begins at 7 o’clock.

“We are pleased to graduate these Corrections Deputies. These men and women are to be commended for their efforts to serve our community by working at the Shelby County Jail,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

The Corrections Deputies have been part of a rigorous seven-week training course which included the latest jail security methods, physical agility and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.

“These graduates have shown a high degree of professionalism and dedication throughout the course of their training.  The additional staff will certainly help ensure that inmates in our care and custody remain safe and secure,” said Chief Jailer James E. Coleman.

With next Wednesday’s graduation, the Sheriff’s Office will have 850 Corrections Deputies, including supervisors, who serve at three locations: the men’s facility downtown at 201 Poplar Avenue, the Jail East women’s facility and the satellite Shelby County Jail inmate holding area at the Shelby County Corrections Center.
